To whomever it concerns: I would like to point out that I am in no way, shape or form a Preacher. I am not formally educated in the Holy Bible. Yes, I have read and studied it since I was very young, but I do not consider that an 'education' like that of a registered Preacher.
Where do I get my Bible Info? I listen to online Bible studies: Pastor Arnold and Dennis Murray as well as read a Study-Bible daily.
I am still learning and will always study the Bible. But that is a personal habit.
Please, going forward, understand that (not just for myself, but with all preachers/teachers) people are not perfect, and mistakes can be and are made.
-Nothing about me, just a daily updated Bible Study for anyone interested.
*** I use an old KJV (study) bible for all these studies. When you see added notes/details under certain verses, they are either things I've learned from my own studies, or (most often) notes from the Study Bible.***
God Bless us All
I would like to ask people to keep Charlie Kirk's family in their prayers.
Judges:
Judges: Before Israel had kings (1 Samuel) they had Judges which lead them. Not the same 'Judges' as the ones today. They were chosen by God and lead by God. And through God's divine influence they listened to Him. The Hebrew word for this book 'Judges' means, 'to put right' and it's a verb.
*Joshua 23: 9 - 13. Please keep these verses in mind throughout this book.
Numbers of Verses: 30
1 - 21: A levite goeth to Bethlehem to fetch home his wife.
22 - end: The Gibeathites abuse his concubine to death
Books, chapters and verses to keep in mind while reading chapter:
Joshua 23: 9 - 13
Deuteronomy 7:2.
Chapter 19
*To ensure Peace, you must be tough enough to enforce it.
*Very Graphic Chapter*
Read's discretion is advised. The following chapter covers r*pe and m*rder. *Verse 22 - 30 covers this.
Only God can make things right (Hosea 9:9, “They have deeply corrupted themselves, as in the days of Gibeah: therefore he will remember their iniquity, he will visit their sins.”). When you get rid of faith, apostasy slips right in.
Note, with many chapters in the bible, this chapter also has a deeper, spiritual meaning.
[1] And it came to pass in those days, when there was no king in Israel, that there was a certain Levite sojourning on the side of mount Ephraim, who took to him a concubine out of Bethlehemjudah.
-“concubine” = (Hebrew) a woman a concubine (or) a wife a concubine
-Concubine: a woman holding a protected but secondary position in the household. I.e. A secondary wife.
[2] And his concubine played the w**** against him, and went away from him unto her father's house to Bethlehemjudah, and was there four whole months.
-*The Septuagint is significantly older, originating around the 3rd century BC as the first Greek translation of the Hebrew Bible, while the King James Version (KJV) is a much later English translation from the early 17th century (1611). The Septuagint (LXX) was the common Bible for early Christians, including New Testament writers, long before the KJV was even conceived. Per the Septuagint, the term calling her a w**** isn’t present. It was added in the KJV Bible. (In the Septuagint Judges 19:2 “And his concubine departed from him, and went away from him to the house of her father to Bethleem Juda, and she was there four months.”)
-Why would she be gone for 4 months? She was likely homesick.
[3] And her husband arose, and went after her, to speak friendly unto her, and to bring her again, having his servant with him, and a couple of donkeys: and she brought him into her father's house: and when the father of the damsel saw him, he rejoiced to meet him.
-“friendly” = (Hebrew) to her heart (Genesis 34:3, “And his soul clave unto Dinah the daughter of Jacob, and he loved the damsel, and spake kindly unto the damsel.”)
-Hope to reconcile
-*Note the previous verse. And consider this as well, being a Levite, if she were hiring her body out, he’d most likely not be seeking her out to begin with.
[4] And his father in law, the damsel's father, retained him; and he abode with him three days: so they did eat and drink, and lodged there.
-
[5] And it came to pass on the fourth day, when they arose early in the morning, that he rose up to depart: and the damsel's father said unto his son in law, Comfort thine heart with a morsel of bread, and afterward go your way.
-“Comfort” = (Hebrew) strengthen
-“four”- (Biblical Numerics) The earth
-By the end of their hosting, the woman’s father kept them for a long while. Either because he missed his daughter, and or he really liked his son in law (per verse 3).
[6] And they sat down, and did eat and drink both of them together: for the damsel's father had said unto the man, Be content, I pray thee, and tarry all night, and let thine heart be merry.
-
[7] And when the man rose up to depart, his father in law urged him: therefore he lodged there again.
-
[8] And he arose early in the morning on the fifth day to depart: and the damsel's father said, Comfort thine heart, I pray thee. And they tarried until afternoon, and they did eat both of them.
-“until afternoon” = (Hebrew) till the day declined
-5 = (Biblical Numerics) Grace
[9] And when the man rose up to depart, he, and his concubine, and his servant, his father in law, the damsel's father, said unto him, Behold, now the day draweth toward evening, I pray you tarry all night: behold, the day groweth to an end, lodge here, that thine heart may be merry; and to morrow get you early on your way, that thou mayest go home.
-“draweth toward evening” = (Hebrew) is weak
-“the day groweth to an end” = (Hebrew) it is the pitching time of the day
-“home” = (Hebrew) to thy tent.
[10] But the man would not tarry that night, but he rose up and departed, and came over against Jebus, which is Jerusalem; and there were with him two donkeys saddled, his concubine also was with him.
-The Jebusites founded the city of Jebus. However, David will conquer it and would rename it Jerusalem.
-At the time, people DID NOT travel at night.
[11] And when they were by Jebus, the day was far spent; and the servant said unto his master, Come, I pray thee, and let us turn in into this city of the Jebusites, and lodge in it.
-Reminder: Jebusites were not a part of Israel's tribes, but strangers.
[12] And his master said unto him, We will not turn aside hither into the city of a stranger, that is not of the children of Israel; we will pass over to Gibeah.
-“Gibeah” = (Hebrew) hill.
[13] And he said unto his servant, Come, and let us draw near to one of these places to lodge all night, in Gibeah, or in Ramah.
-Both places are hills
-“Ramah”= (Hebrew) height/exalted
[14] And they passed on and went their way; and the sun went down upon them when they were by Gibeah, which belongeth to Benjamin.
-the 6th day.
-Note: This chapter has a much deeper meaning for today’s world. In Hosea 9: 7- 9, “ The days of visitation are come, the days of recompence are come; Israel shall know it: the prophet is a fool, the spiritual man is mad, for the multitude of thine iniquity, and the great hatred.[8] The watchman of Ephraim was with my God: but the prophet is a snare of a fowler in all his ways, and hatred in the house of his God.[9] They have deeply corrupted themselves, as in the days of Gibeah: therefore he will remember their iniquity, he will visit their sins.”---this is what God warned us our world would be like in the end times. I.e. What happens at the 22 verse and onward of this Chapter.
[15] And they turned aside thither, to go in and to lodge in Gibeah: and when he went in, he sat him down in a street of the city: for there was no man that took them into his house to lodging.
-Compare with how things are today: Are their places (towns/cities) where you would be safe to sleep on the streets?
-Luke 17: 20, 26-30, “[20] And when he was demanded of the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God should come, he answered them and said, The kingdom of God cometh not with observation:[26] And as it was in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man.[27] They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all.[28] Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded;[29] But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all.[30] Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed.”.
[16] And, behold, there came an old man from his work out of the field at even, which was also of mount Ephraim; and he sojourned in Gibeah: but the men of the place were Benjamites.
-Not a Benjamite, but a stranger of the land also. (Note, he was part of the tribe of Israel, just not from the area/tribe he currently dwelt among)
[17] And when he had lifted up his eyes, he saw a wayfaring man in the street of the city: and the old man said, Whither goest thou? and whence comest thou?
-I.e. Where ya going and where are you from?
[18] And he said unto him, We are passing from Bethlehemjudah toward the side of mount Ephraim; from thence am I: and I went to Bethlehemjudah, but I am now going to the house of the LORD; and there is no man that receiveth me to house.
-“recieveth” = (Hebrew) gathered (Note: verse 15)
-Judges 18:31, “And they set them up Micah's graven image, which he made, all the time that the house of God was in Shiloh.”
-A Levite man
- house of the LORD - Where he worked/ his duties of a priest were
-“...there is no man that receiveth me to house.” -Proof the people were already at a point of Degradation.
[19] Yet there is both straw and provender for our donkeys; and there is bread and wine also for me, and for thy handmaid, and for the young man which is with thy servants: there is no want of any thing.
-Won’t be a burden, just need a place to stay.
[20] And the old man said, Peace be with thee; howsoever let all thy wants lie upon me; only lodge not in the street.
-“Peace be with thee”- a salute
[21] So he brought him into his house, and gave provender unto the donkeys: and they washed their feet, and did eat and drink.
-A custom of the time. They wore sandals and the dust from the road/earth would make them dirty.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*Reminder: The following verses cover r*pe and death and gore.*
Reader's Discretion is advised.
[22] Now as they were making their hearts merry, behold, the men of the city, certain sons of Belial, beset the house round about, and beat at the door, and spake to the master of the house, the old man, saying, Bring forth the man that came into thine house, that we may know him.
-*An example of what the End Times will be like. Note, God has been warning us of this throughout the Bible (Old and New Testament)
Luke 17: 20, 26-30, “ And when he was demanded of the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God should come, he answered them and said, The kingdom of God cometh not with observation:[26] And as it was in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man.[27] They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all.[28] Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded;[29] But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all.[30] Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed.” (Noe = Noah)
What happened with Lot- Genesis 19
[23] And the man, the master of the house, went out unto them, Nay, my brethren, nay, I pray you, do not so wickedly; seeing that this man is come into mine house, do not this folly.
-He’s under his protection.
-Note Genesis 19.
[24] Behold, here is my daughter a maiden, and his concubine; them I will bring out now, and humble ye them, and do with them what seemeth good unto you: but unto this man do not so vile a thing.
-“so vile a thing” = (Hebrew) the matter of this folly.
-Genesis 19.
-Note: This chapter does have a deeper meaning. And it isn't to submit to bullying/ letting the world stomp on you. Protect your family. Protect those you love.
[25] But the men would not hearken to him: so the man took his concubine, and brought her forth unto them; and they knew her, and abused her all the night until the morning: and when the day began to spring, they let her go.
-
[26] Then came the woman in the dawning of the day, and fell down at the door of the man's house where her lord was, till it was light.
-
[27] And her lord rose up in the morning, and opened the doors of the house, and went out to go his way: and, behold, the woman his concubine was fallen down at the door of the house, and her hands were upon the threshold.
-
[28] And he said unto her, Up, and let us be going. But none answered. Then the man took her up upon an donkey, and the man rose up, and gat him unto his place.
-She died.
[29] And when he was come into his house, he took a knife, and laid hold on his concubine, and divided her, together with her bones, into twelve pieces, and sent her into all the coasts of Israel.
-
[30] And it was so, that all that saw it said, There was no such deed done nor seen from the day that the children of Israel came up out of the land of Egypt unto this day: consider of it, take advice, and speak your minds.
-“consider of it, take advice, and speak your minds”- Judges 20:7, “Behold, ye are all children of Israel; give here your advice and counsel.”.
-Hosea 9: 7-9, “ The days of visitation are come, the days of recompence are come; Israel shall know it: the prophet is a fool, the spiritual man is mad, for the multitude of thine iniquity, and the great hatred.[8] The watchman of Ephraim was with my God: but the prophet is a snare of a fowler in all his ways, and hatred in the house of his God.[9] They have deeply corrupted themselves, as in the days of Gibeah: therefore he will remember their iniquity, he will visit their sins.”
Genesis 19.
May those who read this, read with understanding.
