I don't remember them trying it before, but I will take your word for it.
I did suggest a method to find foundies in sales in my ticket... if they insist on sneaking this change through without our support the least they could do is give us an efficient search method.

That is exactly what I was thinking - there is no search for Foundations and the only way to find them was to set the search to GP<352 (older foundies can have a GP of 351.20). Now you will have a terrible time finding them - not just NIB but foundations collectors like myself as well.

I agree a search option in sales and directory for foundies no matter the gp would be ideal...

Oh trust me, I've sent in a ticket explaining why this change is a huge slap in the face to NIB'er's, and got nothing more than a pre-written response. Such a shame that they can't even take the time to listen to what people are saying about this before implementing such a massive change.
I got this response... not as cookie-cutter as some I've gotten.

Hello Aly37,

Thank you for your message regarding a specific search option for foundation or NIB horses.

I appreciate you taking the time to share your excellent idea with me. While I am not able to make promises regarding changes to the game content or systems, I am happy to share your suggestion for the search option with the rest of the Howrse team for consideration. I will also be passing your feedback about the GP change on to them as well.

Please make sure to contact us with any further concerns or questions and I hope the remainder of your week is a pleasant one.

Best wishes and happy Howrseing!

Kind regards,
BOwer

The following is what I wrote to the game administrators:

---

Dear administrators,

The following is a technical explanation of the reasons why gradual increases in foundation GP is a fundamentally flawed idea, and how it will worsen the game in applying such an update.

First off, as you know, the GP formula is structured such that no matter how high the top GP on a server is, it takes roughly the same number of horse generations to reach it from a GP of 350. But you know this.

The GP formula in its current form was deliberately designed with balance in mind, and now you want to give an even bigger perk to new players by ruining the entire game continuity and essentially further devaluing GP?

Changing the nature of foundation horses breaks a lot of game continuity, and aside from alienating many of your players, large groups of NIB dedicated players can and will likely throw in the towel.

Instead, you should have applied a perk to new players, where new players have something like double GP gains and double aging point finding probability, but only if the new account doesn't have access to the sales/auctions. This would stop abuse of such a perk.

---

I received a generic response back, as though they didn't even read a word of my argument.

I've played on the French server off and on, and they have had this implemented there for a while - my first horse on my current account was 439.00 GP . (My previous attempts at an account there were foiled by inactivity.)

I have no idea how the community there responded - I haven't dwaddled much in the social side of the server, though I could certainly check it out, as most of the communication is in English. I remember the International explosion, though I barely ever play there.

That being said, I can speculate that it didn't help out the newbies much - as of this post, the highest horse on the French server sits at 6275.65 GP. (For context, the highest horse on the INT server presently is 5317.00 GP, but I digress.) I doubt that the small leg up given to the French newbies was worth destroying the viability of the NIB project and the nostalgia of that magical 350.

A part of the logic in changing the foundie GP is flawed, anyway - according to a friend of mine on a different website*, because of how GP gains work, going from foundie to top GP will always cost roughly the same amount of aging points, no matter what the top GP is presently. I haven't fact-checked this anywhere else, but it seems to be in line with what I've seen and what I've read. If it's so, modifying the GP only helps with blupping - something Howrse could also achieve by tweaking the competitions. That solution also helps the players with 350 GPed foundies presently - for example, I've been able to blup my first horse, but I'm probably going to give up on my second.

*Yes, I geek out about this game elsewhere on the internet. It's alright if you make fun of me for this.

Now that I've written a lovely essay for your enjoyment, I may as well send a slightly modified version as a ticket. Wish me luck!

Do you suppose the 350 GP foundies will be collector's items now? default smiley (h)

Absolutely correct, as the GP formula (explained here) was designed for new player balance. The only thing this boosted foundation GP does is just slightly increase the benefit for newer players, but this could have been just as easily achieved by modifying the GP formula.

Does anyone know when the magic hat is coming out?
Just want to remind people that though there is no official announcement regarding the GP change, it is technically 'live' and therefore no longer a spoiler, even if it was implemented with no warning. I do understand the frustration people are feeling at this point in time and do encourage players to send in their feedback on the matter if they feel so inclined. However, lets keep this topic dedicated to its purpose . . . which is future content.

Is there any info on the Magic Hat and it's release? I see it's gone live in the trophies section, but I can't find anything else about it yet. Has there been anything when it'll be released? Or what the different coats 'perks' will be? I assume it's something like the Bewitched Pumpkin or Seal of the Ap...
By Retired breeder, October 24, 2015 01:02:12
Duh! Worked my way to the Magic Hat page and answered my own questions default smiley (lol) can't believe I couldn't find it earlier.

Where's the witch hat page???

Magic Hat
Turn your horse into a magical creature using the Magic Hat!
The Magic Hat will disappear 90 days after it first appeared in your inventory if you don't use it. It cannot be traded.
This item will give the horse the following bonuses:
Stamina: +5
Speed: +5
Dressage: +5
Gallop: +5
Trot: +5
Jumping: +5
Your horse can become...

Enchanter :
All of your horse's food becomes free.
Evil Witch :
Your horse will inflict 3 penalty points on every competitor in competitions (except for any Grand Prix).
Fairy :
Your horse receives an extra +5 bonus in each skill.
Shaman :
Your horse changes appearance each time they age. They may appear in any Magic Hat coat, as well as any Bewitched Pumpkin or Seal of the Apocalypse coat (except Ghost or Pestilentia). Your horse then gains the perks linked to the coat they appear with on that day.

Only horses that are more than 1 year and 6 months old can use the Magic Hat.
The Magic Hat cannot be used in conjunction with another special coat. If you give your horse a Golden Apple and then a Magic Hat, your horse will lose their Golden Apple.

When will the Astrological horses be coming out?
By Retired breeder, October 24, 2015 21:46:38
Please message me if you know and if possible default smiley :) ^^^^

Also, I agree one BMI from one horse once a year is kinda ridiculous for astrological horses. I think it would be cool if every sign/horse gives a BMI during one random (or specific) day of their month and then if you have the horse that's your sign you get a really special bonus on your birthday from your bday sign. Also maybe all the horses give a bonus occasionally like all horses can be bedded late and have less than 20% energy (like the Hypnos blanket) until they lose the bonus, like the constellations give them the bonus to be bedded whenever because constellations remind me of the night ... I don't know some kind of bonus they give on a regular basis like once a week and a specific BMI each month during the horses month.

Best guess is Nov 12 or Nov 16.

Honestly, I wouldn't mind getting a BMI once a year, especially if it's a Harmony Pack or 5th Element. I've only ever had one 5th Element, so that would still be increase for me.
By Retired breeder, October 25, 2015 18:35:56
I agree. I'm looking forward to the Zodiac horses. Even if it is only once A year. Still free and its another divine.
OK now that I feel a bit more comfortable with the new promo here is how it works.

Click to display

Step 1

Click on the button saying enter a horse.

You can enter 6 horses free per day. You can enter more than 6 but will have to pay a pass for that privilege. This is in the form of a ticket. I pass=1ticket.

You will be taken to your main account with a bunch of horses pre selected for you. You CAN enter a different horse no on that list if you put it in the search option and select it.

NOTE each day a different comp will be selected for you.

There are three types of competitions for this event.

► Hunter
► Steeple Chase
► Endurance

Taking Part in Competitions

There are several skill levels of difficulty which are represented by Continents. Horses can be entered based on their skill levels.

The level of difficulty is based on the total skills of your horse (different from normal competition where it is the most important skill that determines the difficulty): the more your horse has high skills, the more the level of difficulty will be high. The level of difficulty cannot be higher than 100%, which is the level for the top horses of the game. The higher the level of difficulty, the more points are won.

You win more points when your horse finished first than 5th.

Example.

1st place: 93
2nd place: 81
3rd place horse: 71
4th place horse: 61
5th place horse: 50

The above may change a bit depending on the level of difficulty of the race you entered.

Taking part in a competition in this event does not use the horses':

► Time
► Energy
► Morale

► You are not limited to 2 horses per competition. Divine, wild and legendary horses cannot take part in these competitions. Each horse can only participate in one competition at a time however you can re-enter the same horse again once that horse has completed the race it was in..

So once you have selected your horse you can boost the horses skills by two methods.

First you can braid the horses tail

► with a mini game
► with a ticket

If you play the mini game it is VERY important to click INSIDE of the red circle, not near it and do all circles in 30 seconds ( I did not find this hard at all).

You get

The bonus applied only for the competition you prepare the horse for :
+20 endurance
+20 speed
+20 jumping

You can also get more of the same bonus as above by

Encouraging the horse

Before entering your horse, you have also a chance to obtain an encouragement bonus:

► You can request help from your friends, for 300 equus
► with a ticket

Your friends can answer your request on the contest page.

Once you have done with the two bonuses available click on the button that says Enter the competition and a map will show up showing comps on different places on a world map with different difficulty levels and the points each give . So select on by clicking on it and you are done with this horse.

Next horse, just repeat.
