Has anyone thought about what Feb. EC changes are going to bring. They've been talking a lot about this on the International server. The changes include doing away with sending horses to pasture and boxes. Just as we're learning new foal game schedules the only ways we have left to do them and obtain all 60 skill points are being taken away from us. And why is it so important for prestige to have plenty of meadows for pastures and boxes for comfort? It's hard enough as it is to find cheap enough ECs for our AP horses, pass horses, and horses that just need pasture feeding. Just think how the prices are going to skyrocket when players realize that all the food will come from the EC! The more changes they make the harder it is to see where all of this is going. I've worked too hard to get where I am to quit but it is getting harder for those of us with smaller reserves to get ahead in the game.

I don't use meadows or boxes to complete foal games with my babies. I am lucky enough to have the fountain available to me so that helps.

What I do is:

Groom - Water - Play maximum I can - Stroke - carrot - feed - play again if enough time available.

With the fountain, I typicallly have several spare hours available on the last day once the games are completed. Since I have the fountain I don't knoe if this will work without it.


And what about the divines that give diamonds when put in their box or sent to the field - and what about the bonuses that can be found in the boxes.

I was wondering the same thing... Several of my Gemstones give out diamonds from using the box or meadow... And does that mean the Croesus Fortune will be totally obsolete now?? All of my skillers have them and it does come in handy with the bonuses it gives... If we can't put horses in meadows now how will we be able to make up for that? I don't usually use the meadows for feeding unless I buy a horse with low health but it's nice knowing the option is still there at least if I need it.

I'm all for some changes and for the most part I've liked what's been going on so far but... Too many changes will end up just confusing everyone and turning people away. Not everyone wants to essentially learn a whole to new game just to keep playing the game they've been playing.... Sometimes there is such a thing as too much of a good thing as far as changes go.... Just saying

I don't use meadows for foal games but I know a lot of people who do. I do however use the box. It works better when the foal is in an EC with a shower and I have the fountain but I don't have the fountain all the time. I'm not to the point where I have a constant supply of skillers for the Prix yet especially since I can't afford to buy passes to get better horses and BMI's. I've earned the fountain 7 times so far but I'm usually toward the lower end of the 100 for the week. I do enjoy this game though and since I'm disabled it gives me something to do with my day.

Speculation is that it will be back in the next day or so but as of right now it's not available yet. Considering #1) Most promos usually start on either Monday or Thursday and today is Wednesday, more than likely it will be back tomorrow. Also, #2) There's usually a couple days break between promos and the Snowball Fight just ended so... Probably tomorrow lol. Nothing definite on that though.
When it does come back you'll be able to access it and your daily objectives through the Homepage (click on the Howrse logo in the top left of the screen)

I would point out not everyone has access to the fountain. HOWEVER they did state if the EC has troughs in their meadow the 'drink' button would get +8 to energy instead of its current +2. . so I imagine that will play a factor.

Losing meadows will make me sad. I prefer using them over using an EC's resources, and since a lot of my AP/Pass herd is in ECs that do not have resources the meadow goes a long to way to cutting into my personal costs, particularly if you can find decent meadows in the winter.

We'll see, I am sure they have considered all options and the test server will be able to figure things out along the way.

Looking forward to the GC myself, running really really low on 2* tack that can be combined for color bonus.

Agree, the meadows are like a thank you to he EC owners, allowing them to keep stock growing. If I no longer have the meadow on my International game, 100 extra horses will have to eat from reserves. That's a lot of food, and most people keep 300 or more just for APs.

@ Hallaloth I also use the meadows for my AP/Pass herd small though it be and for any horses that might need a pick up in health, morale, or just a little extra feeding. I'm not sure why they want to do away with them but I hope they come up with something good to replace them. Also why would we need troughs in our meadows when we won't be using them for our horses?

That would be troughs in the boxes, not the meadows. Troughs in the meadows will be like a scarecrow that helps us raise more cattle for leather. The box troughs are for our horses.

Just an idea, but if they take away the pasture and box thing, we should be able to plant more than 5 meadows, to make up for the increase in fodder use.

The upcoming changes page already says we will be able to plant 6 meadows since we will also be "growing" cattle for leather.

Yes but that has to include the meadows we use to grow cattle on for the leather so it won't really be an increase for regular crops. We already get to plant 5 meadows with crops so unless we only use 1 meadow for cattle we'll actually be losing available crop space.

@Elinea That's my point exactly! Too much change is not necessarily a good thing.

So use fertilizer and grow 2 rounds of crops in the summer. It's possible - I don't usually do it - but it can be done. You can also stop growing apples for a few months - I know I have a huge stockpile of those.

Foal games have me more worried than crops right now. I hope they will make it possible to still get the full 60 points without BMIs or fountain. Requiring showers and/or troughs will be a bother, but I can deal with that.

I know I'm going to get some tester foals lined up so I can try out the new schedules without using my breeding horses. Face it - Howrse is going to change whether we want it to or not, so we might as well use the information they give us to prepare as best we can.

I always use my own EC for foal games; I know that my boxes always have showers. Much easier for me to use.
If that change comes into effect, I might just release all but like four boxes to the public; I'm not putting my resources out there, but hopefully the showers will help.

I have showers and 3* boxes -- I use those for foal games and do not let my others out to the public -- but the point is, new players won't have these - and what about folks who can't spend real money ? I know I can't spend a great deal -- call me crazy about thinking about others, but it's my nature .... what has the game done for them lately ?

I can always cancel my own boarding in my EC, so if I'm gaming/BLUPping repeatedly in one day, I can cycle them out. You're right; new players won't have those. But my lessons are terrible; there's no way I can actually put a high skill limit on that unless I go through and board my old BLUPping horses... and then there's the problem that that limits boxes. I don't really know what to do on that issue...

You do not have to spend real money to have a good EC. I have not spent a single cent on my EC and can still claim 74th in prestige overall with 52e lessons. I could go higher, but I would have to actually out and find decent skill horses to board myself and shuffle out my own Divines and I can guarantee showers for my divines if they board with me.

Building an EC takes patience and a little managing. Build it before offering boarding, it is not like boarding makes you any money in the long run.

I've been debating taking my EC private as well because of all the changes. Haven't made up my mind yet - but the more things change the more I'm leaning toward that idea. I would make sure my divines have homes with showers and I could control where my comp horses end up easier.

My breeders I'm not so worried about - other than shuffling them to be able to complete the rides in the correct EC - they typically end up in whatever EC i can find for 20e max.

some players do spend money --- I have; most of the time, I don't -- but sometimes, passes are quicker --it's a fact and in the long run, cheaper
(as at times the equus gets low and you need to spend real money to get "fake" -- I don't need to and I won't, but I'm sure, with as large a player base as this game has, some have)

but then again, I'd say 75 % of really good ECs are private -- and I understand why they are
(actually prestige is not the most important I've found -- it's lesson price, at least for my less than the best skillers -- if I ever get into my EC seriously again, that will be what I go for )
but the point again is -- must we always change?
I'm ok with it, and will continue to play in my very limited capacity, as I want to --- but change is not always needed or required for fun game play
