Besides the Cross Country breeds there are others that need only one type of Ride - the classic comp gallopers - ie, TBs, trotters, ie, French T. and show Jumpers - like shetlands. These are a little tedious but only use 1 type of Ride. I've found with those using 1hr blocks along with the 30min really cuts down on the time for BLUP-ing -- which even with the short times for Speed, i can fully Blup by 10yrs. I can't really tell how the new system will effect those.

Any thoughts?

Never mind - I was thinking current not future. Cross Country is at a profound advantage over all the others - which I wish Admins would rethink.

I'm not fond of the new prehistoric divines...
Maybe its the artwork or just the idea that's throwing me off, but I probably won't try too hard to get one.
Anyone have the perks yet?

I'm not fond of the idea. I don't believe in evolution, so I guess I can look at it like I do unicorns and pegasi (I think that's right). But there's just something off about it to me. I wish Howrse wouldn't introduce "touchy" horses such as these new divines and the SOA coats. Oh well....
I mean... not to be a downer or anything but whether you 'believe' in evolution or not (I do, because it's literally all around us) these are animals that have been proven to exist a hundred times over. We have the fossils and bones for them. Tarpans and subspecies of them were actually still alive and kicking (though very rare and endangered) in the 1800s. These horses aren't controversial or 'touchy', they're based on very real horses that very definitely existed.

As for SoA, I'm not sure why those are touchy either. They're just based on the myth of the four horsemen of the apocalypse, just like almost every other divine on Howrse is based on a myth of some sort. They shouldn't be any more touchy than any other divine on this website?

Personally, I love the idea of having divines based on real horses. The Tarpan is my favorite, but I really like Hippidion too. It'll definitely be a goal of mine to get these when they come.

Also, it makes sense that the black one would be the Forest Horse, since that would have been the direct evolutionary descendent of the Tarpan and was the base horse for so many of our current breeds.

One doesn't really "believe" in evolution; one accepts the overwhelming scientific evidence for it as fact and moves on with their life. Like it or not, the theory of evolution is around to stay, and you can either accept it or continue to be blind to the evidence that's in front of you.

I agree with Yum-Yum; I don't see the controversy behind the Prehistoric Divines or the Seal. We all know that these animals existed millions of years ago; to deny that is utter madness. As for the Seal, it really isn't all that new or even all that shocking. Depictions of the Four Horsemen have been around for centuries; heck, if a kid really wanted to know about it, it wouldn't be that hard for them to do their own research on it.

Also, please note that I wasn't directly attacking you. If you'd like to have a discussion about evolution with me, please feel free to PM me. I love talking about this stuff, and I believe it's important for people to know what the theory of evolution actually is. default smiley ^)
I was confused by your wording, but Elen said it perfectly. Evolution isn't something you "believe" or "have faith" in - it's literally scientifically proven and continues to be every day, so you can like it or dislike it but there isn't a belief factor.

And personally I think evolution is really interesting to think about and observe. Probably part of why I love the new divines so much. They're based on real horses and I love it. And I totally agree with you, Elen, about how important it is for people to actually understand it.

That aside, the Seal of Apocalypse horses have been some of my favorite horses ever to come on the game. The four horsement is one of my favorite myths, so I came on around Halloween and that was so cool.

I'm not going to get into a debate in this forum: however, I'll happily take it to PM. default smiley :)

My point was simply that I, personally, don't see sufficient evidence to prove evolution, so I accept different ideas. And about the SOA coats, I agree that they are cool, they just seem a bit... odd since they come directly from the Bible after religion is not allowed on here.

Again, I don't want to get in trouble, so I don't want to get into an argument here, but we can take this to PM.
I mean, I'll PM about it as well. I just don't know why you don't find enough evidence when it's all around us every day, but I'm not trying to attack you; I just don't see how there's any kind of a belief factor here.

I will dispute the SoA coats, though. We aren't allowed to preach about religion on our pages, but almost every single myth on Howrse is connected to some religion. SoA may be connected to Christianity but any of the greek mythology horses or Roman mythology horses are connected to those religions, and plenty of people (believe it or not) still believe in those religions. They shouldn't be any different imo.

This. This right here. Taking symbolism from different religions isn't the problem; it's when one system of belief is taught as being the "one and only true form of belief" that issues start popping up. Personally, I'd love it if Howrse started using non-European myths for their Divines; religion has been and will always be a part of humanity, and we can certainly appreciate the beauty in all of the shared symbolism. default smiley :)

Ehh...not a fan of the Magic Ride Promo and the perks for the evaluation horses are OK - graphics are nice but perks are ok for me. So if they are together I'm just not going to work all that hard on the promo. I find it sort of irritating because of the luck factor.default smiley (o)

Meant -- evolution -- bad, bad spell checkdefault smiley (lol)
Lets try and keep things on topic please. If you really want to discuss the matter lets take it to PMs since Howrse is not the place for such discussion.

We could all probably debate this one right and left and never get anywhere, which is why Howrse asks that we keep it off the forums.

I have to agree with Hallaloth that this isn't the place to debate it and that we could all go around in circles for days over evolution... I will say though that at least this is one debate that is respectful and open minded which I appreciate. After seeing how harsh some people can be in this forum specifically when they have difference of opinions, it's nice to see that at least some players can still be on total opposite sides of the fence and still be civil, understanding and respectful of other's views. Just wanted to give kudos for that default smiley (y)
Also, thank you for taking to PMs instead of going back and forth in the forums. default smiley (y)
Well, it wasn't started as a debate. It was on topic, because it concerned the Prehistoric Divines. But once it became a debate we took it to private messaging.
