Let's try that again:

If your horse is boarded at one of these locations it will gain double the skills [faster, not more] than usual. However this is not faster than it is now. So, basically, whatever ride they do based on the EC is the same skill gain now, with slightly less energy. Making the rides for the other location twice as long because they are in half. But basically all breeds will have to do two rides so either way it is the same amount of time no matter where you board. It's a matter of the skills you want to reach quicker.

Forest - Jumping, Dressage, Speed
Mountain - Stamina, Gallop, Trot
Beach ~ Makes your beach rides progress twice as fast [you can also choose which skill it goes in and comes out of] But choosing this does mean you only get half skills for both Forest and Mountain. taking you even longer than usual.
default smiley (lol) We've know that for a long time.

I agree... BLUPping will be so tedious with this new change, as if the lost tack change wasn't enough...
I understand why Howrse is constantly changing the game; I respect that they want to make it appealing to all. Running a game like Howrse definitely cannot be easy. However, I don't see why they keep making changes like this one that drastically affect BLUPping. It's getting irritating, and it's not helping anyone. default smiley (n)

I've decided that tomorrow, while I've got a couple of hours to kill between classes, I'm jumping on an extra pair of Nokotas that I have and I will BLUP them to 70. This will NOT factor in winning comps, but I will be posting a Nokota schedule in the BLUP forum, in case anyone wants it. It'll be temporary until I get *everything* figured out, but until then, it might actually help.

Just when I have a perfect schedule for my horses. default smiley :(

Well it seems like I'm going to stay up a bit later so I can finish BLUPing my horses so then only my new horses will get hit the hardest on me finding a new BLUPing schedule.

Truthfully this is the first major change that has affected Blup drastically in a very long time that I can remember. So long as most breeds can still be done at or before 10 WITHOUT a timer I will be okay. Most of my unis are done around 8 or 9 and I have never pushed myself into finding the absolutely best ride schedule. Too lazy to do the numbers on it.

Most of mine aren't done until 15-20. But I do breed them whenever possible, and except for maybe GVs and shetlands mine are all <500 GP, so go figure. I just hope these changes don't mean that my unicorns die of old age before they're BLUPed >.>

I think just in case I'll finish my TB's rides tonight. She's only 3 aging points away and I would hate to have to do that with the new schedule. I'm going to take one of my horses and do a test of sorts that way I don't mess up my current projects.

Me too. I just got used to the EC changes, now whole game changes?! I'm going to be so confused with different things tomorrow... default smiley :@default smiley 8-)
I'm going to reserve judgment on these changes. Some of them I already know I won't like, for example the merging of the reserves. Though for that particular case I understand why Howrse is doing it and think it'll make things easier for most people, just not me since I spend pretty recklessly, so now I won't have any equus for my EC.
I remember many previous updates where everyone thought the world was going to end... we're still here, aren't we?

This may have been already answered and if so I apologize, but as far as the new 'missions' will those count the same as lessons did for the purpose of skilling a horse? Not that I do so very often but I would still like to know.

I still don't get the rides..... So like can you still do forest rides in the mountains and you just spend more energy? Ugh I already thought BLUPing was hard.
For those complaining about only getting a couple days before this update - the information has been about this change has been posted in the EC Changes timeline since the October change was made. It was orignally supposed to take place around the middle of November - but was changed to early December.

The rest of the changes as well as the planed timeline are posted in the EC Changes timeline. A link to the timeline is in the October Updates topic here in the events forum.

So let me get this strait... For breeds needing two sets of rides we must board at one EC then at a different to blup?!?

Yes, missions will give skills just like lessons do now.
You can do rides in any location no matter where the EC is. If you ride in the same location as the EC your horse will gain (or transfer) skills twice as fast - like adding a C. Timer for just that one type of ride.
Nope, you can do all the rides in all ECs. If you want to get the faster skill gain for two types of ride then you will need to switch.

You actually spend less energy per hour.

It is changing from traditionally Trot-27%, Gallop-33% and steep slope-35% to 18% across the board.

How is it taking longer to blup now then?
mackenziedeer

It will take longer to blup because more breeds will need two types of ride to get their top 3 skills. Doing 2 types of rides takes longer than doing 1 set of rides. However, the lowered energy requirement per hour will allow us to get more rides into each day... so it may balance out somewhat.

mackenzideer - the concern now is that more breeds will need both forest and mountain rides to get all the skills they need - where as before there where several breeds that only needed one type of ride - short gallop for TBs for instance. In essence if you had a breed that only needed one type of ride - and they now need two - you are doubling the the number of rides needed. It will take some juggling by players to figure out what works best for them.

I see it as adding half again what was previously needed if you go from 1 to 2 ride types and still being about the same if you were doing 2 previously. But since I'm not on the test server and don't have first hand knowledge I'm only guessing based on comments made here.

Will have to see how it goes.
